JOHN FRUM: Mysterious New Project Announced from Current and Former Members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Faceless, John Zorn, etc.

A Stirring In The Noos Coming this May via Relapse Records.

February 15, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA – This is February 15, John Frum Day. On this day, cult followers from all over the island of Tanna in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu come to the village of Lamakara at Sulfa Bay to march, raise their flags and celebrate their esoteric way of life. This is also the day that the patron saints of altered states known as John Frum reveal to the world the first glimpse into their chronicle of auditory disturbances. Indulge your senses HERE.
Consisting of current and formers members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Faceless, John Zorn and many other renowned projects, John Frum have been fermenting their bedeviled broth in the clandestine corners of their collective consciousness since 11.11.11. Like a planchette moved by the presence of subtle energies, John Frum functions as a medium for malefic musings.
Existing at the intersections of perception, superstition, intoxication, ritual, rhetoric, metaphysics and mystical experience, John Frum welcome in the golden age of musical enlightenment with their first manifesto, A Stirring in the Noos. Nearly 6 years in the making, John Frum’s unorthodox debut maneuvers through 40 minutes of darkly psychedelic and meticulously crafted death metal, the backdrop of a bad trip. A Stirring in the Noos is a dismal distillation of oneiric transmissions, an aural reliquary of mis-shapen manifestations, and a totem to modern primitivism in heavy music. A Stirring in the Noos will see it’s release this May via Relapse Records.
John Frum borrows its name from a relatively isolated group of natives in the South Pacific islands, known as a Cargo Cult, who first used the alias John Frum as a means to reject European ways, escape oppressive missionaries, and return to their old traditions. The narrative changed, during the war in the 1940s, to reflect their encounters with thousands of American soldiers who spectacularly descended on that region by sea and air with crates of wartime materials dropped from the sky, known as “Cargo.” These events drastically changed the beliefs and lifestyle of the islanders as they took the soldiers and their offerings to be god-like, as they descended from the heavens.
Alt-religious narratives induced by these encounters were incongruent with islanders’ long-held beliefs, yet the natives could not deny the call of the cargo. Attempting to reconcile their existing beliefs with the new understanding of the outside world led to some strange interpretations which evolved into a bizarre narrative about a dark-skinned soldier-deity who resides inside a nearby volcano, and who many believe will one day return, showering them in riches and technology.
Stay tuned for more info and music from John Frum. Read an in-depth account of John Frum Day via The Smithsonian Magazine HERE.

SAVE FERRIS DEBUT VIDEO FOR “NEW SOUND”

[ad]

February 6, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA – Influential Orange County ska-punk band SAVE FERRIS will release their first record in 17 years, Checkered Past, on February 10th via WITHYN Records. In anticipation, the band has teamed up with PasteMagazine.comto premiere a new video for their hot new single “New Sound.” Fans can pre-order the new EP now at iTunes and Amazon.
Watch the video for “New Sound” now, exclusively at PasteMagazine.com:

Speaking with PasteMagazine.com, Save Ferris’ frontwoman Monique Powell says “Filming this video was so much fun because it was literally a house party with our friends. Directing the video was my dear friend Piper Ferguson. I have wanted to do a video with Piper for years but because Piper typically does such high budget productions, I was afraid she might say no. Fortunately this is a situation in which having good friends that are incredibly talented comes in handy. You can truly tell this was a passion project for her. Having Angelo Moore (Fishbone, Angelo Moore and the Brand New Step) there was a given, as we always have so much fun together. The only person missing was Nev, he flew in his parts from the UK.”
The music video for “New Sound” opens at a lame house party that suddenly becomes an epic throwdown with the assistance of Save Ferris. The video features a cameo by Fishbone’s Angelo Moore and a vocal/cameo by Neville Staple, former vocalist for the legendary 2 tone ska band The Specials.
The video comes just days before the release of Save Ferris long-awaited new EP, Checkered Past, and their headline North American tour, which kicks off Friday with support from Vista Kicks (West Coast dates) and Baby Baby (East Coast dates). THE MENZINGERS’ AFTER THE PARTY OUT TODAY

PHILADELPHIA PUNK BAND SET FOR NATIONAL HEADLINE TOUR

Today marks the long-awaited release of After the Party, the new album from The Menzingers. The fifth full-length from the Philadelphia punk band, After the Party arrives as the follow-up to 2014’s widely acclaimed Rented World.

Stream After the Party at Spotify now:

Produced by Will Yip (Title Fight, Balance & Composure, Pianos Become the Teeth), After the Party is a raw yet introspective look at getting older but not quite growing up. Throughout the album, singer/guitarists Greg Barnett and Tom May, bassist Eric Keen, and drummer Joe Godino offset their nuanced songwriting with anthemic harmonies, furious power chords, and larger-than-life melodies.

After the Party is a “a force of freewheeling expression and determined resolution” that “showcases the band at their boldest and brightest yet,” according to The Line of Best Fit. The review also notes that the album “reflects on the world around us and becomes a spark of motivation for something new.”

After the Party features several critically lauded singles from The Menzingers, including “Lookers” (hailed by Noisey as a “classic and thoroughly catchy piece of Menzingian songwriting”), “Bad Catholics” (a track whose “penetrating lyrics [are] packed into a sly haymaker of a hook,” according to Stereogum), and “Thick as Thieves” (which “flirts with a touch of abstraction” and “recalls the power pop-rock of the early 1980s,” in the words of New York Times pop critic Jon Caramanica).

AFTER THE PARTY TRACKLIST:

1. Tellin’ Lies
2. Thick as Thieves
3. Lookers
4. Midwestern States
5. Charlie’s Army
6. House on Fire
7. Black Mass
8. Boy Blue
9. Bad Catholics
10. Your Wild Years
11. The Bars
12. After the Party
13. Livin’ Ain’t Easy

In addition, The Menzingers will play an acoustic in-store at Wilkes Barre, PA’s Gallery of Sound tomorrow at 4 p.m.

“Right when you get your footing, and you get a foothold, that’s when your life flips upside down. That’s the world we live in sometimes, where calm turns into chaos and we have to push forward to gain some clarity. These seven songs could be the soundtrack to that passing moment, from calm to chaos back to clarity. We continue to push forward as a band, and mix everything we learned along the way into these tracks. You learn from history or are doomed to repeat the mistakes is what someone said and that is a truth on everything we do in this world. Sound The Alarm has Roger Lima at the helm again as was Jason Livermore from Blasting Room mixing and this release feels like a good continuing arc from our last full length See The Light. We keep refining what the modern LTJ is.” – Vinnie Fiorello (drums)

The Hangmen release long-awaited new studio material in March

[ad]

Punk-rockabilly trio The Hangmen release long-awaited new studio material in March on vinyl and download.

The cult UK-band’s long-travelled international collision course to oblivion landed them again within earshot of recording equipment in 2016 (and someone reckless enough to turn it on). This alignment borne the three-track EP, ‘Necronomicon’.

Summoning part of an ever-expanding original repertoire to shatter the occasion, the new release offers a glimpse into the current state of the rock & roll band’s dark and wild sound. It complimenting a discography of eight albums, a handful of other EPs and several compilation appearances over the past 25 years.

In homage to the movie ‘Evil Dead’, the title track ‘Necronomicon’ takes the horrorbilly-punk association a disturbed step or three further than most.

But the song and accompanying video offer more than just another horror movie-themed rock ‘n’ roll track, as the band deliver a frantic composition and twisted visuals that mirror the rollercoaster-ride-to-madness experience of the cult terrorfest that inspired them.

Available on limited edition 10″ vinyl as well as download, additional tracks ‘Collarbomb’ and ‘The Great Brain Robbery’ serve to assure that the band’s insanity prevails and still rocks in readiness for the next full length studio album, currently in progress.

The Hangmen are for the no-frills ‘Play Loud’ crowd, regulars on the international psychobilly scene and punk scenes, but set are apart by a knack for never repeating themselves (or anyone else) and a distinctive sound so raw that it attracts bacteria.

Play this and run…

Pre-order here: https://hangmen666.bandcamp.com/album/necronomicon-ep

The EP ‘Necronomicon’ is released on Moon Skull Records March 11 2017 on limited edition 10” vinyl (Cat.# HANG10) and digital download (Cat.# HANG10DL).

The limited edition 10″ vinyl version is available to pre-order now and comes with free instant gratification download of the title track, followed by free downloads of the remaining tracks on the release date. After pre-orders, the next available copies of the vinyl record will be on sale at Bedlam Breakout Psychobilly Festival in Northampton, England, when the band performs there on the Saturday night (March 11 2017) of the event.

The download-only version will be available from the usual major online outlets.

LESS THAN JAKE WILL RELEASE NEW EP, ‘SOUND THE ALARM,’ ON FEB 3RD;
PRE-ORDER THE RECORD AND STREAM THEIR NEW SONG, “THINGS CHANGE,” NOW!
January 4, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA – Influential Gainesville punk band Less Than Jake has announced plans to release a new EP titled Sound The Alarm on February 3rd with their new label Pure Noise Records.
Fans can pre-order the record and stream a brand new song called “Things Change” now at http://smarturl.it/LTJ.
Speaking about the new song, lyricist and drummer Vinnie Fiorello says “the only thing constant is change” is one of the lines in the chorus of the song and such a massive truth to me. The sooner you could realize this, digest it, and embrace it the better off you’re going to be. Let it all move forward, at lightning speed. Everything and everyone changes, the world keeps on spinning like it or not.”
Less Than Jake’s new EP, Sound The Alarm, marks an exciting new chapter for the band as they celebrate 25 years together and a newly inked deal with Pure Noise Records. Featuring 7, ska infused punk songs that quickly remind listeners of the band’s incredible ability to craft memorable, hook-filled music.
“We started writing this set of songs, similar to our last record See The Light, sitting around a table in our warehouse with some acoustic guitars, lyrics scribbled on scraps of paper, and a constant barrage of ideas,” Fiorello explains. “Trying ideas as they would come out, sometimes chasing the idea, or getting connected or not connected to an idea right away. We had been writing and were planning on fleshing out the ideas while on Warped Tour.”
Sound The Alarm was recorded and produced by Roger Lima and mixed at the famed punk recording studio, The Blasting Room, in Fort Collins, CO. The band wrapped the record following their run on last summer’s Vans Warped Tour.
After years of releasing records through various major and independent labels Less Than Jake has found a new home at the Southern California based Pure Noise Records.
“When I met Jake at the San Francisco stop of Warped Tour, we talked about working together,” Fiorello adds. “He is a longtime fan, knows the history and the arch of LTJ and that’s important to know where we have to go. It’s always great to have a mutual respect between band and label and that is exactly what we have between LTJ and Pure Noise.”
Fans can catch Less Than Jake live this winter on their co-headline U.S. tour with San Diego rock band Pepper, which starts in Dallas, TX on January 20th and wraps in St. Petersburg, FL on February 28th. Tickets are on sale now at http://www.lessthanjake.com/.

THE INTERRUPTERS TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM ‘SAY IT OUT LOUD’ AVAILABLE JUNE 24 ON HELLCAT RECORDS

[ad]

Los Angeles-based ska-punk band The Interrupters will release their sophomore album, Say It Out Loud, on June 24 via Hellcat Records. Say It Out Loud is undeniably fun and urgent in message. And backing their modernized 2-Tone-tinged, guitar-fueled, melody-heavy sound are lyrics that confront everything from social control and self-empowerment to domestic violence and the media circus surrounding the next presidential election.

True to The Interrupters’ unabandoned passion and personal-meets-political dynamic, the first song shared from the album is “By My Side,” a fist-pumping, tender tribute to outcast solidarity.

Listen to “By My Side” now:

Since the release of their 2014 self-titled debut, The Interrupters have split their time between touring with the likes of The English Beat and Bad Religion and cranking out new material that shows off their irrepressible sensibility. So when the time came to record their sophomore album Say It Out Loud, the four-piece hit the studio with Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and fired off 14 new songs that both capture their frenetic energy and reveal a whole new level of boldness in their songwriting.

Over the past couple years we got to know ourselves so much better as a band, and that gave us a lot of room to really grow on this album,” notes frontwoman Aimee Interrupter, whose bandmates include guitarist Kevin Bivona, bassist Justin Bivona, and drummer Jesse Bivona.

Produced by Armstrong and recorded partly at his studio (as well as at Travis Barker’s Opra Studios), Say It Out Loud are a batch of feel-good songs proving The Interrupters’ unstoppably upbeat spirit. The Interrupters have forged a formidable bond that deeply informs their music. “Loyalty, family, friendship, and unity—with upstrokes,” says Kevin. “That pretty much sums up The Interrupters and what we are all about.”

Pre-orders for Say It Out Loud are available at http://www.wearetheinterrupters.com/. The Interrupters will headline a SOLD OUT headline show at The Roxy in Hollywood, CA and are on the Vans Warped Tour all summer long, staring in Dallas, TX on June 24 through August 13 in Portland, Oregon.
