Hoods sign worldwide deal with I Scream Records

I Scream Records is very proud to welcome Hoods to the family.
Hoods founded in Sacramento, CA, in 1995 by Mike Hoods have grown into a Hardcore institution. Their music is a call to arms for all of those who have grown tired watching Hardcore be exploited and bastardized. Mike Hood has used his years of experience to craft one of the most brutal and honest West Coast Hardcore bands ever.
Hoods have released several albums on a number of independents and now the long-awaited new album “Pit Beast” is set for release in May 2009.

“14 years and we’re still here. Still playing Hardcore, still having fun and bringing the mosh. I had no idea when I started Hoods if we would even last a year. With so many ups and many more downs we definitely made our mark. Not only for West Coast Hardcore but all over the world. I live, eat and breathe this music”. Mike Hood

It’s the Fourth Coming of the Ska Is Dead Tour (http://www.skaisdead.com/), and there are signs that the resurrection is keeping. Marking a return of the all-ska tour after a three-year hiatus, SID4 is bringing ass-shaking good times to an all-ages venue near you RIGHT NOW (see site for tour dates). Saturday’s 6 hour set from 5 great bands proved SID founder Dave Kirchgessner’s posit: Ska is anything but dead.

Happy Aniversary

In case anyone is still alive, next month will be the 10 year anniversary of upstarter.com … that’s a long freakin’ time to be runnin’ a long con on the music industry. They send me stuff and I spew out some bogus opinion about it. Hell’s Yes! I rule! … Never the less, next month I will be re-issuing ancient reviews from 1999. I suspect that it’ll be a pandemonium like Y2K all over again. Hooray!

Free SXSW Performance

The Shirts for a Cure Project is proud to announce this year’s SXSW day party will feature The Bouncing Souls, Dillinger Four, Darkest Hour, The A.K.A.’s and Ruiner. This will be the ONLY 2009 SXSW appearance by The Bouncing Souls, Dillinger Four and Darkest Hours. This FREE event will be held at Red 7 (611 East 7th Street) on Friday March 20th, doors open at noon sharp. Donations will be collected at the door and are strong encouraged.

There will be limited space at this event, so please arrive early to be assured entry.

Back in Studio for Fourth Album

The Aggrolites have returned to the studio to craft their fourth full-length album and follow-up to the acclaimed Reggae Hit L.A. (Hellcat Records). Recording at Kingsize Soundlabs in Los Angeles, and scheduled for release in May 2009, the new album is guaranteed to deliver even more of their signature hard-hitting, soul-infused reggae.

The Aggrolites join socially conscious roots rockers Michael Franti & Spearhead at the new Club Nokia at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles on January 31. Poet, musician and composer, Franti blends hip-hop, funk and reggae together with his outspoken political and progressive lyrics, and has gone on to become a worldwide million-selling artist and a leader in the peace and social justice movement. This show is part of Michael Franti & Spearhead’s 2009 Hey World Tour in support of All Rebel Rockers (Anti- Records), their first Top 40 album. NEW ALBUM COMING 2009

Mushroomhead one of the more unique and adventurous alternative metal outfits to ever emerged on the scene gears up for the DVD release of Volume 2, on October 28, 2008 on Filthy Hands/Megaforce Records. It’s the highly anticipated follow-up to their 2005 DVD release Volume 1. The new DVD features 2 ½ hours of pure mayhem featuring exclusive never before seen content, live footage from the past three years on their “Savior Sorrow” tour, music videos including Headbanger’s Ball 2007 Video Of The Year “1200,” “Simple Survival,” and the band’s brand new video “Save Us.” Other extras include video commentary, behind the scenes footage and band antics.

Check out the new video “Save Us” from the forthcoming DVD to premiere exclusively on The Gauntlet.com Thursday October 23.
