Hey, you. Enjoy this right now! I mean, if you want to, that is.
“A driven, feverish, splutteringly angry rock album about living in a world where the prevailing climate has become so anti-human, so apocalyptically bleak, that it’s all you can do to scream into a pillow sometimes.” – Stereogum, Album of the Week
Canadian punk band Propagandhi have announced 2018 North American tour dates. Propagandhi are touring in support of their seventh album Victory Lap (September 29 via Epitaph). La Armada and Iron Chic will open the show. Tickets go on sale December 8 at 9am local time. For more information visit https://propagandhi.com/
Since forming in Manitoba in 1986, Propagandhi have brought an emphatic anti-fascist message to their music. Along with addressing a number of personal losses suffered in recent years, Victory Lap finds the band facing a landscape in which fascism is—among a certain crowd—suddenly trendy.
The band’s first full-length in five years, Victory Lap arrives as the follow-up to 2012’s acclaimed Failed States. Victory Lap also marks Propagandhi’s first album with new guitarist Sulynn Hago, who joins Samolesky, frontman Chris Hannah, and bassist Todd Kowalski. Replacing longtime guitarist David Guillas (who appears on several tracks on Victory Lap), Hago was added to the lineup after Propagandhi put out a call for audition tapes and received over 400 responses.

20TH ANNUAL PUNK ROCK BOWLING & MUSIC FESTIVAL – MAY 25-28, 2018
(December 7, 2017, Las Vegas, NV) – For the past 20 years, no music festival has carved out as distinct a niche as Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival. Started in 1999 by Shawn and Mark Stern, the brothers behind BYO Records, as well as founding members of the legendary Los Angeles punk band Youth Brigade, Punk Rock Bowling is one of the few events where the music is just as important as camaraderie—and a little friendly competition. And for its 20th-anniversary celebration, Punk Rock Bowling is going for broke.
“We never even thought about it going two years,” says Mark Stern about the festival’s longevity. “We just set up a party for all our friends in bands and labels, and since everyone had such a great time the first year, more people wanted to come out, so we did it again next year.” That spirit has been carried into each year of Punk Rock Bowling, and the 2018 iteration, which takes place in Las Vegas from May 25-28, shows that it’ll be bigger, better, and a bit more eccentric than years past. Starting on Friday, May 25, Punk Rock Bowling kicks off the weekend with intimate late night club shows that also run all weekend long after the festival stage lets out which runs Sat. May 26 through Monday, May 28.
But what would Punk Rock Bowling be without its adopted sport of choice? In addition to all the bands, there will be an amateur bowling tournament with over 800 participants on Saturday, May 26, offering a series of cash prizes and other assorted goodies before the finals on Sunday, May 27. And if bowling isn’t your thing, on Friday, May 25, there will be a winner-take-all Texas Hold ‘em poker tournament at the Golden Nugget. Never mind the fact there will be pool parties, free comedy shows, punk rock movie screenings, and punk rock lounge acts all scattered throughout the four-day weekend. “I think a lot of the reason that it has continued to grow is because it’s a lot different from a normal festival,” says Mark. “Plus, it’s in Vegas, where there is no curfew. So it just never ends if you don’t want it to.”
The 20th anniversary of Punk Rock Bowling will feature a who’s who of punk bands from all eras of the genre’s storied history. Headlining this year will be Chicago’s Rise Against, a band that’s taken melodic hardcore to new heights with every one of their albums. This is the band’s first time at Punk Rock Bowling, but they’re not the only band new to the festival. In 2018, a an entire wave of first-timers will be taking the stage at Punk Rock Bowling, with a very rare appearance from the elusive At The Drive In, L7, Steve Ignorant performing early CRASS songs, The Marked Men, The Partisans, and British sensation, Slaves (UK) all getting in on the action. “I’m constantly looking for new bands to add to the older reunion type lineups to give young bands a chance and introduce them to our audience,” says Mark. And while Punk Rock Bowling does a bang-up job in that regard, they’ve invited some old friends back to Vegas, with bands such as one of PRB’s main staples, NOFX, along with Against Me!, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Turbonegro returning this year.
It’s a cavalcade that’s befitting of the Sterns’ initial vision, which was to make an event that was less of a music festival and more of a social gathering. Built on the DIY ethos that has informed every part of the Stern brothers’ careers, Punk Rock Bowling is pulling out all the stops for its 20th anniversary, making it the kind of punk rock cornucopia that has a little something for everyone. “Our goal is to make people want to come back. We want them to have a great time and not feel like they’ve been had,” says Stern. “After all, if it wasn’t for the fans, this weekend would never exist.”
Three-day tickets for Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival are $150 and are on sale now.
Single-day tickets and the daily lineups will be announced in 2018.

Quite a few back I did a book review of the drug fueled, vampire ridden novel, Knuckle Supper. Maybe you recall, or perhaps not. At any rate, the author has just released the sequel, Knuckle Balled. … I don’t have time to do a full review at the moment, but go check out the new book by author Drew Stepek
Kim Wilde, Lawnmower Deth – F U Kristmas! (Official Video)
Thrash legends Lawnmower Deth have collaborated with 80s pop star Kim Wilde for the anti-Christmas track F U Kristmas – out tomorrow
UK thrash icons Lawnmower Deth have teamed up with 80s pop star Kim Wilde to record an anti-Christmas song.
It’s titled F U Kristmas and it’ll officially launch tomorrow (December 1) via Wildflower Records.
Wilde joined Lawnmower Deth onstage at Download 2016 – and says that a collaboration was “bound to happen” as a result of that performance, which she calls “a personal highlight of my career.”
Lawnmower Deth covered Wilde’s 1981 hit Kids In America back in 1991, which Wilde has previously said was her favourite version of the song.

I’ve got a new demo (released September 2017) cued up at the moment. Let me tell you about it. The inconspicuously titled “Demo” by Material Remains holds five tracks of 80s flavored noisey, garagesque punk rockings. There’s not much info on the band, but I’m going to assume they are from TX, and based on the lineup listed, I’m firmly convinced that they are a trio.
There’s a solid vibe to the tracks, very lo-fi, and if I had to pick some resemblance, right now it’s really making me think of Nerve Agents (who are fucking rad) but again, it has a way more 80s lo-fi garage style to it. It’s a demo though, so these things are to be both expected and enjoyed.
There’s only 5 tracks, so you don’t get a big taste of the band, but I’m interested in how they’re going to progress. I’m hearing a solid foundation and I look forward to more. But don’t let me be the only voice you hear, listen for yourself: https://materialremainstx.bandcamp.com
Cheers!

Currently rocking to “Disapproved” by Kalik. Kalick is a punk rock trio, evidently with a like for ska as well. The band hails from Denmark and has been putting the rubber to the road since 2005.
Disapproved is their new EP and it punches hard with five uptempo punk and ska-esque tracks. I have a tendency to like trios, for a variety of reasons, the efficiency being one of them. Kalik is no exception, the rhythms are terse and punchy and no effort is wasted. Tracks are done in English, which seems to be the norm. Something that sadly also seems to be the current norm is commentary on the sorry state of US politics and the current “commander in chief” (not naming any names, but you know)
I will often use the space to describe influence and points of reference to give you an idea of what you’re getting yourself into, but I’ll be damned if I’m coming up with anything very exacting. It’s punk rock. After damn near 40 years of punk, it kind of sounds like a lot of different things. I think a more important point is that it’s good. The tracks are played well, and the vocals aren’t devolved into a mass or strangled screams, so I declare it good to fucking go!
Cheers!
