THE MENZINGERS SHARE VIDEO FOR “AFTER THE PARTY”

PHILADELPHIA PUNK BAND NOW ON NATIONAL HEADLINE TOUR

Today marks the premiere of the video for “After the Party,” the title track from The Menzingers’ latest album. The Philadelphia punk band’s fifth full-length, After the Party was released last month to much critical acclaim.

Directed by Kyle Thrash, “After the Party” unfolds as a frenetic short film following a young couple through Dairy Queen parking lots, trashed apartments, house parties, motel rooms, pool halls, and rooftops. The video’s gritty yet romantic sensibility perfectly captures the spirit of the song—a bittersweet anthem that Menzingers singer/guitarist Greg Barnett has described as “mundane moments etched behind eyelids that culminate into meaningful realizations, and of course give way to the beautiful trifecta of Sex! Drugs! Rock n Roll!”

Watch the video for “After the Party” here:

Produced by Will Yip (Title Fight, Balance & Composure, Pianos Become the Teeth), After the Party offers a raw yet nuanced look at getting older but not quite growing up. In a five-star review, Blurt praised the album as “one of the best punk records you’ll hear this year.” Also hailing After the Party as the band’s best album to date, Blurt noted that The Menzingers “have been progressively growing from their fiery, aggressive earlier years into something more reflective and introspective, while never compromising energy or attitude.”

Speedbilly – Hold Our Beers and Watch This

Hi there. My name is Jerry. I’ll be your server today. Let me tell you about today’s special. Well, let’s see, it appears that we’re all out of everything except some, best I can tell, punkabilly dirt-rock, courtesy of Minneapolis’ own Speedbilly.

“Hold Our Beers and Watch This” is a gut stomping 4 song EP, loaded up with country twang, piss, and vinegar. The sounds is reminiscent of Zeke, Hank III, The Meatmen, and a bit of 1984 era Van Halen. The tracks extol the virtues of the 440 Magnum powered 1969 Dodge Charger, better known as The General Lee, What I can assume is a bad ass run at the tractor pull, and the dirty trick demolition derby maneuver known as the Malachi Crunch, among other things. (Not to be confused with “The Malachi Crunch” by NOFX)

The limited sampling of material is fun. I get the impression that these boys would put on a hella fine show, after a 12 pack, in a dirt patch, in the middle of the woods, from the back of a pickup truck.

Cheers!
Jerry Actually

Bang a Cowboy

Deposit Man Asks What if I Bang a Cowboy?

Deposit Man, a punk band based in Oulu, Finland has released the first single from their upcoming sophomore record. The track Bang a Cowboy premiered in digital format on 28.2.2017 along with a music video.

Bang a Cowboy shows off a lighter yet more versatile side to Deposit Man. “I wanted to compose a more romantic song then Lance named it Bang a Cowboy”, explains composer Elias Casanova.

Vocalist-Guitarist Lance Fono explains the idea behind the lyrics, “People these days stick religiously to their political sides, left or right and I wrote these lyrics to question what happens if you wanted to bang a gun toting cowboy, which side do you choose then?”.

Wanna Write For Upstarter?

On a damn near continual basis I wish that I could do more to raise awareness for the bands and music that I, that we, love. Alas, I am just a one man show. One man with a day job.

Long story short, I’m looking for content contributors.

I can not pay you, but your soul shall reap the rewards of a life well lived. Your name will be shouted, and guts festooned about the halls of Valhalla.

So, for reals, if you fancy yourself a writer, or if you just wanna promote your scene, hit me up. I’m not hyper critical.

All I ask is that you keep it roughly to the format of “not mainstream”

Cheers,
Jerry Actually
